When I first started this piece, I wanted to do something popping out of a book, and that is how I got the idea to do the book. I first placed an image of a book and used the pen tool to go around the pages. I then filled the page in with black. I used my pen tool very carefully to go around the pages to make them look realistic. I used a separate image for the background and chose to have a book sitting on a dock, and I add a shadow to cast my realism into my piece. 

I did the same process on the other side of the book and added the ocean to add contrast to my piece and create juxtaposition. I opened an image of grass on a different tab and the sea, used my lasso tool, and then dragged it to my main piece. I took a picture of a whale and placed it on the ocean to create the illusion of it jumping out of the water. I added the ocean splash to blend in with the whale to add more realism. 

To finish my piece I changed the shadow to make it look more realistic. I completed my piece with the whale jumping on to the land to add my "pop out" to finish it off.
